Once started... A Little Box of Flowers

Hi there, it appears that making 3"x3" cards and boxes to put them in is quite addictive! Still there are worse things to do in life. This time I used 2016-2018 In Colours and last years corresponding DSP which is sadly retired, alongside the Flower Shop stamp set. I also used Petite Petals and the corresponding punch.

This time I made the box fastening slightly differently; instead of adding velcro fastenings, I folded the card over and rounded the edges so it would tuck in easily.

I also made a small band from the coordinating DSP and added a punched flower to correspond with the hand stamped paper that decorated the box. There is something rather therapeutic about stamping your own paper

The small sentiments on each card were taken from a range of stamp sets as usual. I like to put a selection into my sets, to cover various occasions. I hope you like them.

A Box Full of Cards

Hello again, a while ago I was very kindly given the new In Colours for 2017 – 2019 plus a 6” square sample of each of the new coordinating DSP. They have been sitting here mocking me to actually stop looking and start using them. After my recent craft room sort out and tidy up, I found a pack of 3”x3” cards and envelopes and thought it would be quite cool to make up a pack of 5 cards and a box or bag for them to go in. Seemed to me like the perfect marriage; a set of small cards in the new colours! How could it go wrong as they will make rather cute little gifts for friends and family.

I chose to use the Eastern Medallions Thinlits dies, another set recently purchased. They fitted perfectly. As the card bases were white, I die cut a white square using the largest of the Stitched Shaped Framelits attaching it to coloured cardstock leaving a 1/16border using my Perfect Layer rulers for accuracy. I die cut the Eastern Medallion shapes, so I had one in each colour to match the cards. After adding some gold metallic thread behind each medallion, I attached one to each card with glue dots. Each card was stamped with a small sentiment, I chose a different one for each card from a range of stamp sets.

Usually when I make boxes and bags I go to my trusty friend, Pinterest, for help. I follow several demonstrators, some who seem to specialise in 3D projects. This time, however, I took a piece of rough paper, sketched my design and worked out how to deconstruct it; it’s a good job I listened to my maths lessons on fractions oh so long ago! Ok so I know this was an easy project to start with but it has inspired me to have a go at others in the future.

To make the box;

Cut an 11" x 4⅝" piece of cardstock.
Score - on the long side at 3⅜", 4", 7 ⅜" and 8"
and on the short side - ⅝" and 4"  I'm not going to give full instructions as I think once the score lines have been folded and burnished, it should be self explanatory especially with this picture. I did use red double sided tape as it is strong so won't come apart over time. I also used 16mm round Velcro stick ons for the fastening.

I gave this set to Susan, my upline as a small thank you for all the help she gives me. I realise it's like taking coals to Newcastle, giving a crafter a ready made set of cards but I do hope she likes and can make use of them. So, onto the next set...

Christmas in July

That really does seem a tad strange for a title doesn't it. At Stampin' Up though they have given us a teaser of things to come; there is a new stamp set available for demonstrators and anyone choosing to sign up in July. We're also eagerly anticipating the Autumn/Winter catalogue so that we can pre-order in August to create lots of gorgeous things for you prior to general release on 1st September.

I've chosen to use the Star of Light set that I'm so pleased has been carried over to the Annual catalogue this year. I love this set, apart from the obvious Xmas cards and goodies, I've used it to create fireworks and also a little magic - the flourish was perfect for my Harry Potter inspired cards!

 I cut the largest square in the Stitched Shape Framelit set in Whisper White. I then stamped my sentiment so I knew where to place my star die from the Star of Light set. This square was then mounted onto Pool Party and I cut a border using my Perfect Layers ruler. I know they aren't Stampin' Up, however there are some things I can't manage without and this is one of them, alongside my precision press for accurate stamping.

Using Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, I cut some stars, they really do sparkle. It's such a shame they don't show up too well . A quick tip; when die cutting Glimmer Paper, cut on the reverse.

These star die cuts were placed over the aperture using a mini dimensional with a rhinestone placed in the centre. This helps cover the fixing but I think adds a little more bling to such a simple card.

To make the box;

Cut an 11" x 4⅝" piece of cardstock.
Score - on the long side at 3⅜", 4", 7 ⅜" and 8"
and on the short side - ⅝" and 4"
Trim as shown in the photo.

The box before sticking. This time I chose to use velcro dots to close the flap which was shaped using an edgelits die.

 I also added a hint of white card behind the lid so that I could stick down my fancy star. Being a (sometimes) frugal crafter, I didn't want to use more of the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper as most of it would be hidden but I did want that effect. Then I had an idea, Before sticking the Whisper White card down, I ran some glue along the edge and sprinkled with Dazzling Diamond Stampin' Glitter. The same result... You can also see a hint of the heat embossing on the front too.

I think I already know the recipient for this little box of cards; the colours will match her lounge perfectly!
